Bexley Libraries announce Bexley Book of the Year 2024

Book of the year winner 2024

Bexley Libraries are excited to announce Weyward by Emilia Hart as the winner of the 2024 Bexley Book of the Year. After a public vote, Weyward emerged as the clear favourite, captivating readers with its story of three women across five centuries, each fighting for their freedom and resilience.

The novel follows Kate, who escapes a traumatic relationship to uncover her family’s secrets, Violet, who defies her father’s oppressive rules during WWII and Altha, a woman on trial for witchcraft in 1619. Weyward is a spellbinding tale of defiance and strength that clearly resonated with our readers.

Cllr Brian Bishop, Cabinet Member for Communities and Housing said:

We are thrilled with the response from our readers and Weyward was a standout winner”

The book is available to borrow from Bexley Libraries or download on the Libby eBook platform:

As part of our Celebrating Bexley programme, we continue to celebrate the voices and stories that connect our community. Thank you to everyone who took part in this year's Book of the Year vote.
