Council teams received more than 60 reports of fallen trees and branches across the borough – some reporting multiple issues - following yesterday’s ‘Storm Henk’.

Highways and parks teams and highways, waste, tree and arboriculture contractors – including our ‘Out of Hours’ service – were out and about dealing with priority situations and keeping the borough safe for residents and drivers.

The teams expect the number of reports will grow as parks and opens spaces continue to be inspected for damage.

Leader of the Council, Cllr Baroness O’Neill of Bexley OBE said:

I’d like to thank our teams and our contractors for their hard work throughout the awful storm conditions. Their diligence helped to keep roads and pathways safe. The clear up is still ongoing but so much work went on during last night and today to keep our borough moving.”

The clear up is likely to run into next week. Some footways still need to be cleared and footways near trees are being checked to see if paving has been disturbed presenting trip hazards or potential issues with the associated tree.

The waste collection service is running a normal. There could be an increase in debris on the public highway due to the strong winds.
