Leader of the Council, Councillor Baroness O’Neill of Bexley OBE, met Minister for Rail and HS2, Huw Merriman MP, to discuss the Docklands Light Railway (DLR) extension to Thamesmead on Monday 13 May.
During their visit to the Southmere Discovery Centre, Councillor Baroness O’Neill, joined by Bexley’s Interim Chief Executive Paul Thorogood, made it clear that it is vital that any design for the DLR extension also allows for a future extension to Belvedere.
There were further discussions on completing delivery of the original business case for Crossrail by completing the line from Abbey Wood to Ebbsfleet (stopping at Belvedere, Erith and Slade Green).
The Council has continuously lobbied for new investment in transport including new environmentally-friendly buses, the extension of the DLR and the expansion of the Elizabeth Line - which has already been a fantastic addition to the borough.
