A green Bexley for all our residents
I am proud to present our climate change statement and action plan.
We aim to take practical action to address climate change that has the support of local people. We are proud to have a strong record in looking after our environment and on delivering on our pledges.
We do not send any household waste to landfill and have had the best recycling rate in London for 17 years. We are proud of this achievement, which would not have been possible without the support and commitment of our residents.
We said we would plant 1,000 new street trees, which we have done, and again our residents helped by caring for the new trees as they started to grow.
Bexley’s community spirit is one of our greatest assets. Together we have achieved a great deal and we look forward to working with our residents, businesses, and partners to go further in protecting our environment for current and future generations.
Councillor Baroness O'Neill of Bexley OBE, Leader of the Council
In Bexley, we have many wonderful and much-loved green and open spaces that provide our residents with excellent opportunities to improve their health and wellbeing. They enjoy our playgrounds, outdoor gyms, sports, dog walking and socialising with family and friends.
We have developed this action plan to protect and enhance our green environment for our current and future generations. It focuses on six key commitments and on activities that are good for the environment and which maximise the efficient and effective use of our resources in these challenging times.
This plan is joined-up with our Bexley Plan 2022-26, which is our vision for the borough. We will encourage residents, businesses and partners to join us in making changes, big and small, that protect our environment and help mitigate and adapt to the impact of climate change.
We are proud of the progress we have already made, but further action is required. We hope that, with your support, we can achieve even more.
