Beths Grammar School (boys), Bexley Grammar School (mixed), Chislehurst and Sidcup Grammar School (mixed), and Townley Grammar School (girls).

Who can take the Bexley Test

Children currently in Year 5 who were born between 1 September 2014 and 31 August 2015 can take the Bexley Test in 2025.

If your child is outside this age range but is expected to transfer to secondary school in September 2026, email SelectionTests@bexley.gov.uk.

During the registration process it is your responsibility to register your child online. This includes children who attend Bexley primary schools.

Things to consider before you register

The Bexley test is only valid for the four listed Bexley grammar schools.

Medway Council has its own Medway Test and Kent County Council has its own Kent Test.

  • Selection process is extremely competitive: Only about 30% of children get a high enough mark to be able to apply to grammar school. Last year, 6423 pupils sat the test, and 2009 were deemed selective.
  • Everyone must apply: We will not automatically sign up your child to take the test, even if they go to a Bexley primary school.
  • Achieving the selective standard: This does not guarantee a grammar school place, but it does mean the grammar schools consider your application against their admission arrangements.
  • Your Child’s Well-being: It is worth chatting with your child to find out how they feel about taking the test and whether they know that passing is not the be-all and end-all.  Remember that there are excellent secondary school alternatives in Bexley, regardless of test results
  • Application Deadlines: Ensure you complete the registration process within the specified timeframe, as late applications will not be accepted.

If your child has special educational needs (SEN)

If your child has a disability or special educational needs that may affect their ability to take the test, you must discuss this with the special educational needs coordinator (SENCO) at their primary school.

The school is responsible for requesting any necessary access arrangements, not the parent/carer.

Requests will not be accepted after 31 May 2025.
