The London Borough of Bexley has agreed on a Constitution, which sets out how the Council operates, how decisions are made and the procedures, which are to be followed to ensure that the Council operates in a way that is efficient, transparent and accountable to local people.

Some of these processes are required by the law, while others are a matter for the Council to choose.

How can I find out what is in the Constitution?

The Constitution and Code of Corporate Governance are divided into a number of sections (Articles) which set out the basic rules governing the Council’s business.

It includes procedures that are more detailed and codes of practice, rules and protocols.

The Constitution includes the Scheme of Specific Delegations to Officers, which lists the ongoing powers that have been given to staff, this ensures that the Council’s day to day business can continue.
