Referral to Shared Lives

We offer support for adults 18 and older, including those with a learning disability, mental health issue, physical disability, sensory disability, autism, and older adults.

We are registered to work with:

  • people over the age of 18
  • people with a learning disability
  • people with mental health issues
  • older people
  • people with a sensory disability
  • people on the Asperger’s/autistic spectrum
  • people with a physical disability

An allocated worker will support you with the referral as the scheme does not accept direct referrals.

Shared Lives is a personalised service within a family setting. However, we may not always have a Shared Lives carer available with the specific skills or availability to meet your needs.

Comments from people who live with Shared Lives carers

Being a Shared Lives Carer is all about understanding and making a difference in someone’s life.  It requires patience, positivity, kindness and respect.  When looking back you can see how someone has become more independent, confident and smiles a lot….that’s powerful.”

The flexibility of the role of Shared Lives Carer fits well with our family and work life. The careful matching process enables me to promote independence and freedom for the people living with us in Shared Lives."

We have two people living with our family in a Shared Lives placement. There is a good balance of them doing independent activities and joining in with our family. I enjoy getting together for the evening meal at the end of the day, after everyone has finished their work or activities.”

I like all the dinners. My favourites are pie and roast dinner. I like my bedroom with all my things in, including photos of my family. I enjoy doing voluntary work. I like it when my carers' grown-up children look after us as Support Carers.”

My Carers support me to plan my trips to London to see West End shows. They have supported me to join local groups. I like going on holiday. I go on holiday once a year with my Shared Lives family. I go on other supported holidays as well.”
